| Today, finding the time to make it to a doctor or moving to a new town and deciding what doctor to see can be a difficult task. Or, perhaps you are concerned about a specific medical condition and you would like to do some personal research. You may ask yourself, "where do I start?".
Thankfully, the Internet has a growing wealth of medical information available and today's online medical resources are better than ever.
From a research standpoint, the Web has evolved into a fantastic resource. You can now quickly, easily and anonymously research any topic with just a few points and clicks.
There are many Web sites dedicated to health related topics. But, remember, this is just research and you should only give as much credibility to these sources as you feel they deserve.
A good place to start is Web MD (http://www.webmd.com). This is a huge company with a nation-wide advertising campaign. As you enter the site, you will find that they have public, physician and corporate resources so be sure to click on the consumer button when you enter. Or you can go straight to that section at http://my.webmd.com.
Their site is an all encompassing style of health site. This means you will find information about nearly every topic health related. There are newsletters to join, live events, doctor written columns, wide varieties of information topic searches and much more.
And, with MyWebMD, you can customize the information for your return visits.
Another great resource is called Achoo (http://www.achoo.com). This site acts as a gateway to heathcare. In fact, that is their slogan. They offer an abundance of information, plus, they act as a directory service that will link you to other sites where you can find detailed information. In effect, organizing many of the health care related sites.
Locally, The Yuma Regional Medical Center (http://www.yumaregional.org) has teamed up with the Online MD.
This partnership gives you access to their nationwide Health Information Library. As you enter the hospital's Web site, just click on Health Library and select the category that you are interested in.
Another great service they offer is the Find a Doctor. This service works just as easily. Simply click on the type of doctor you need, enter the city and state and you will be given choices for local doctors in that specialization.
Many doctors also have their own Web sites where you can find additional information about their practice.
In addition to these huge, all encompassing sites, there are also specialty sites that will continually update information on a specific topic.
One example of this that caught my eye while researching this topic was eDiets.com (http://www.ediets.com).
Obviously, this site is dedicated to being a healthy, weight-loss resource. I like their tools to make plans and programs that will work for you. And, their animated exercise characters were helpful and entertaining.
As with many topics on the Internet, perhaps the problem is wading through all the information to find a few useful resources. Hopefully these will point you in the right direction and help you find the health information you need.
