| Looking to find information on your favorite professional team or want to check in with the teams from your hometown? The Internet is the answer.
These days, almost every major team has their own Web site, not to mention leagues, fan sites and sporting news sites. Between them all, you can find just about any information you could hope for, all online.
As I was planning to see the Chargers play my hometown team, the Browns, today in San Diego, my first stop was Chargers.com.
Their Web site (http://www.chargers.com) was a little clunky in design and navigation, but they had all the necessary information. I read the latest news releases, team information and checked out their online store.
And, as with most sport sites, I could even order my tickets over the Web. The Chargers are partnered with Ticketmaster, which let me review the different ticket options and pricing, compare them to the seating chart and make the final purchase with my credit card. They will even ship the tickets next day air for an additional fee.
Another great sport site is NFL.com. This official site for the National Football League has news, standings and stats, player information, NFL films, an online store and links to all the team Web sites. They have also gone a step further, enhancing their site with interactive features like chat sessions, online polls and voting, audio and video archives and you can even customize your favorite team's jersey with your name.
Prefer basketball? At NBA.com, their home page features live game scores and times which I thought was a great feature. Of course, you can also find links to news, features, stats, schedules, teams, players, sights and sounds, chats and mailboxes, history and the NBAÊStore.
At NHL.com, the official Web site for the National Hockey League, you will find a home page packed with news, photos, features, columns, up-to-date scores and stats and poles. There is even a link to an online fantasy hockey game.
If you are looking for all around coverage, ESPN.com is a great resource. Their home page features an always changing top story, headline news, features and columns, events and special sections. And, they have links to community sections, major sporting organizations and a ton of other information.
The CNN Sports Illustrated (http://www.cnnsi.com) site is another great place to visit if you are looking for news and stories. This focus allows them to have added coverage of not only the major pro sports but college, international sports and other lower profile events as well.
Finally, if you are looking to take your online sporting experience one step further, Yahoo! has a section devoted to sports Net events (http://events.yahoo.com/Sports/). The broadcast section contains a long list of events you can tune into via the Web while the skiing section allows you to flip though the breathtaking photo gallery from the Antarctica Ski & Snowboard Expedition.
